Kentucky is strange. So many strip malls and used car lots, and Baptist churches. Love those Baptist churches. I'm also fascinated with the squat, one-level architecture of most of the businesses here. I don't remember noticing that when I moved from Hawaii. Paired with the flat, bleak landscape, it feels a little like being in the middle of desolation.
Guess New York has spoiled me with its skyscrapers and beautiful old brownstones.
I am physically exhausted from less than four hours of sleep. Jason called me in the middle of the night to tell me about the MTA strike (no strike as of midnight), and then early this morning (strike). He's flying out from JFK this afternoon, and had to take a cab to get there. Unfortunately, this means he spent all his cash on cab fare, and doesn't have any money for lunch or even anything to drink.
In an hour or so, my brother will shuttle me to my ever-exciting dental appointment. Ugh. It's nice that my mother (a dental assistant) can arrange for me to have free cleanings, but I always feel really uncomfortable around the dentist and the women at the front desk. It's worse than getting a hair cut, and having to make small talk to the hairdresser.
And then I think I'm being made to get my KY license renewed. I know that I need to get this done, as it's two months expired, and it was damn lucky the security at the Westchester Airport didn't notice it was expired. But I'm so tired I just feel like staying at home and reading. My throat is beginning to hurt, and my nose is raw and sniffly.
Wow, I'm such a whiner.
